To Pay Federal Taxes, or Not to Pay Federal Taxes...That is the Question...


Updated graphic of who does and does not pay Federal Income Taxes by different income levels (click on it, then click on it again to make it bigger).  Keep in mind this does NOT include payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare) that ALL income earners pay on any earned income (subject to limits for Social Security of around $106,000).  Also, many lower income earners are "negative" taxpayers, primarily because of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).  These people are recipents of tax credits that entitle them to refunds even if they owed no income taxes. Approx 47% of people filing tax returns owed $0 taxes or were recipents of the EITC.  Look at your own financial situation or your parents and see how you or they "stack up" against all other taxpayers...
